Workflow Prompt

You are designing a team-based challenge activity.

### Required Input
- Topic: [e.g. "Problem solving"]
- Learning Objectives: [e.g. "Apply concepts under pressure"]
- Audience Level: [e.g. high school]
- Group Size: [e.g. teams of 3–5]
- Time Available: [e.g. 20 minutes]
- Resources: [e.g. paper, whiteboard]

### Input Validation
Review inputs.
If objectives are unclear, request clarification.
Pause until clear.

### Instructions
Design a challenge that:
- Has a clear goal and win condition
- Requires teamwork and participation
- Fits within time and resource limits

Add facilitator control layer:
- Opening script
- Rules explanation (simple and fast)
- Progress checkpoints

Add failure handling:
- If one team dominates → introduce balancing rule
- If confusion → simplify rules immediately
- If time runs short → move to scoring

### Output
Provide:
1. Challenge description
2. Opening script
3. Rules and structure
4. Time breakdown
5. Win condition and scoring
6. Facilitation tips (with recovery actions)
7. Closing line

Team Challenge: The Marshmallow Tower

Topic: Iterative Design & Prototyping. Time: 20 Minutes.

Objective: Apply basic physics principles to create the tallest free-standing structure.

Challenge Description

Teams must build the tallest structure possible that can support one whole marshmallow on top. The catch? You only have 18 minutes.

Rules and Resources

  • Resources per team: 20 sticks of dry spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, 1 yard of string, 1 marshmallow.
  • The marshmallow must be on top and intact (no eating it!).
  • The structure must be free-standing (no taping it to the desk or ceiling).

Facilitator Control Layer

Opening Script: “Teams, you have 18 minutes to design, build, and test. The height is measured from the table to the top of the marshmallow. Ready… begin!”

Progress Checkpoints: “We are at the 9-minute mark. If you haven’t put your marshmallow on yet, you’re at high risk. Test your base now!”

Closing Line: “3… 2… 1… Hands up! Do not touch your towers. Let’s get the measuring tape.”

Failure Handling

  • If one team dominates: “Excellent base! Now, to make it harder, you cannot use your hands for the next 60 seconds—use your elbows only.”
  • If a tower collapses: “That’s a successful failure! What did the collapse tell you about your center of gravity? You have 2 minutes to rebuild.”
